The Smithsonian is getting a big package in the next few days. A nearly complete Tyrannosaurus skeleton is making its way to Washington.

The specimen is MOR-055 - wankels rex.

So why give it up to the Smithsonian?

"The opportunity for this T. rex to be probably the most visited, the most famous T. rex in the world," McKamey says, "you know, it deserves its chance in Washington."

I read that they wanted Sue, but where outbid. I'm not sure if I really want to go. There is a T. rex skeleton I can visit not to far away. Its not famous or anything more special than antyping else besides being a T. rex.

Cool. Not too far from me, maybe I'll see it sometime. If I'm correct, Wankel Rex is 38 ft long and 18 years old. Still has some growth to go, but pretty big. Probably weighed about 6-6.5 tons.
