The Forgotten Giants: Ultrasauros & Gigantosaurus

Ultrasauros & Gigantosaurus In this week's special edition of the Forgotten Giants, I bring you two poorly known sauropods. The first is the Ultrasauros. Not to be confused with Ultrasaurus, Ultrasauros reached around 112 feet in length and 40 tons if it is indeed the same animal as the better known Supersaurus. Ultrasauros is widely considered to be synonymous with Supersaurus, though some insist they are simply closely related. For such a long animal, it is relatively lightweight at a mere 40 tons because most of its length is made up of a super elongated neck and tail. Not to be confused with the similarly spelled theropod name Giganotosaurus, pronounced jee/jig/jye-gah-no-toe-sore-us, Gigantosaurus' main claim to fame is its link on Giganotosaurus' Wikipedia page that says "not to be confused with Gigantosaurus". Gigantosaurus reached unknown sizes. As if being forgotten, having a confusing name and not being researched more than once or twice wasn't bad enough, scientists have added insult to injury by considering it a nomen dubium.
